  • Marilyne Arpin

    Marilyne Arpin

At 20 years old, Marilyne took her first step on the Camino with an open plane ticket to Europe. Driven by a thirst for self-discovery, the Camino transformed her for years to come. From 2008 to 2012, she accompanied groups of pilgrims seven times to share the essence of the Way. “Isolated from all distractions of daily life, Compostela allows us to reconnect with ourselves and clear the chaos of life, filling us with the silence that the Camino offers.” After completing her studies in social work, Marilyne continued her backpacking travels, where hiking remained at the heart of her destinations. Feeling the call of the apostle James once more, she eagerly wishes to guide pilgrims on this journey of self-discovery. Ultreïa!! (Ever upward, ever onward!)

Do I need to be in good physical health?

Yes, this trip requires good preparation and physical condition, as we walk an average of 20-25 kilometers per day with our backpacks. However, it’s not a matter of age; people of all ages undertake this pilgrimage. It’s also not about strength but endurance, as everyone walks at their own pace. Each morning, the guide explains the route to follow and sets a meeting point, usually a refuge, where everyone gathers at the end of the day. It’s important to prepare physically well in advance if you plan to walk the Camino de Santiago. Start exercising for at least 60 minutes two to three times a week. At least three months before departure, begin training for walking and gradually increase the distance from 5 to 20 km per day.

Can I have my luggage carried?

This service is not included in the package. However, you can use a luggage transport service in most places where we stop; information is available at the hostels. The guide can help you arrange this transport, but it would be preferable to handle it yourself if you can communicate in Spanish.

Who is this trip for?

It is for people open to spiritual experiences and group dynamics. Anyone wishing to experience this journey is welcome, regardless of gender, age, race, or religious belief. However, it is clear that this pilgrimage has a Christian tradition.

What does a pilgrim hostel look like?

There are various types, including clean and welcoming establishments with kitchens and dining rooms for several people (if you want to prepare your own meals). In some cases, there are simple and inexpensive restaurant services. Sleeping areas are dormitory-style, with shared toilets and showers.

How do we eat on the camino?

At various locations, there are grocery stores where you can buy provisions, whether for the journey, for dinner, or for the next day. You can also choose to eat at a restaurant, where they generally offer a pilgrim’s menu (in the evening) for 12 or 15 Euros, including wine. Occasionally, you can stop at a bar (café) for a snack.

What are the advantages of joining Spiritours for this pilgrimage?

The itinerary is well-planned and organized by experienced specialists. You will benefit from the support of a knowledgeable guide who knows the camino and encourages exchanges and reflection. You will also share the experience with a small group of pilgrims eager to push their limits and embark on an inner journey. Additionally, through information and preparation meetings, you will receive valuable advice to prepare both physically and mentally.

“I chose Spiritours for the challenge and to experience a true Camino de Santiago, with all the difficulties and efforts it entails. What I gained from it is a genuine reconciliation with humanity and a deepening of my spirituality.”
– Jean-François B., Anjou, QC

“Great choice of itinerary, wonderful landscapes! I enjoyed the walking and the company of the group. It was a beautiful encounter with myself and a personal breakthrough. I loved my experience and I will recommend Spiritours to my friends.”
– Karine T., Ste-Thérèse, QC
