Experience the nomadic life of the desert and rediscover the power and wisdom of silence. An excursion into another universe, where time stands still and all our habitual landmarks vanish to make way for a new inner reality. Walking in silence in the desert is one of the highest forms of meditation there is. It’s a way of getting in touch with our inner limits and resources. We invite you to experience it in the grandiose world of the Sahara desert and discover Moroccan culture.
A few days on foot in the Sahara is an opportunity to experience a new relationship with oneself, with inner dialogue. In addition to the silence of the desert, the guide offers workshops to shed some of life’s burdens: talking circles, symbolic acts, Toltec agreements, role-playing. These workshops get to the heart of life stories. They are optional.

Laurent has always been drawn to the world’s deserts. He crossed the Sahara by car in 1985. After an international career in IT, he set up his own consulting company at the age of 42. A coach, trainer and seminar leader, he discovered initiatory desert walks in 2009 thanks to 2 Belgian coaches, themselves inspired by a Quebecker. Since 2015, Laurent has been guiding groups of people in search of meaning and disconnection in this 3,000-star hotel of infinite sands, with participants willing to leave a few burdens behind in the dunes…Laurent’s website: https://www.consultant-libre.com/
We offer preparatory meetings before each departure. Additionally, we organize a group-sharing session about a month after returning.
Meet in the early evening at P.E. Trudeau Airport (Montreal) for a flight to Marrakech via Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc (or similar).
Arrival in Marrakech and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and free time to explore the city with our local guides. Dinner. Marrakech is an imperial city and the tourist capital of Morocco. The snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains crown the most beautiful palm grove in Morocco. Marrakech, “the red city,” sits at the heart of this emerald oasis. Its vibrant ochre walls encircle colorful souks, the famous Jemaa-el-Fna square, and hidden palaces behind tall walls. The grand medina of the south is mesmerizing and enchanting. Dinner and overnight stay.
After breakfast, transfer by minibus to Zagora. A 7-hour journey through the stunning landscapes of the Atlas Mountains and the Draa Valley. Lunch on the road. Tea ceremony and dinner with Mohamed’s family, our local guide. Overnight stay at a hotel in Zagora.
After breakfast at the hotel, departure by 4×4 towards the desert. Lunch on the road. Meet the camel drivers and camels at our starting point to begin the camel trek. Set up our first camp for our first night in the desert and have a workshop on conscious walking. Dinner and overnight stay.
Each day starts with a beautiful breakfast at sunrise and a sharing circle. After breakfast, departure with the camp, camels, and guides into the desert. As we move according to the whims of nature, the excursion must be adapted accordingly. Every day, the camp is relocated, and we walk between four and five hours. The pace is slow and silent, allowing for inner reflection while contemplating the breathtaking landscapes to the sound of the wind and occasional Berber songs offered by the camel drivers. A camel is always available for you to rest a bit. Lunch and a siesta are taken along the way in the shade of Tamarisk trees, and the caravan stops to set up camp before sunset. In the evening, additional activities are offered to release life’s burdens through group or individual exercises, relax, recover from the walk, and mentally prepare for the sharing session of the day’s experience, which precedes a delicious dinner prepared by Mohamed and his team, enjoyed under a magnificent starry sky. Dinner by lantern and candlelight with dancing and drums on occasion. At night, you have several sleeping options: the large Berber tent can accommodate 10 people, but you can also sleep in small individual tents or under the stars.
After breakfast, enjoy a rest day in the heart of the desert to recharge. Lunch will be served during the day. Dinner and overnight stay.

How can we go to the bathroom in the Moroccan desert?
There are no dry toilets in the desert. Therefore, you will need to find a secluded spot, like behind a dune. To avoid leaving any traces, everyone burns their toilet paper on the spot. It is recommended to carry matches or a lighter with you.
Do we sleep under the stars during the nights in the desert?
You have two options: sleep in the Berber tent or in an individual tent.
How can I freshen up in the desert?
We suggest bringing wet wipes (baby wipes are suitable) to clean yourself every day. It’s important to note that the desert climate is dry, so we don’t sweat much. Some outdoor or sporting goods stores also sell leaf soap, which can be a good alternative.
Is the water drinkable?
The Berber team provides us with enough drinking water. We fill up individual bottles each morning and during breaks on the walk.
Should I get hiking boots or walking shoes for the trip?
It’s a matter of personal choice. Some people prefer hiking boots that provide better ankle support, but they tend to be hotter. Others prefer walking shoes or even comfortable sport sandals with socks.
Do I need to be fit to join this trip?
We walk about 5 hours a day at a fairly slow pace, and the camp moves daily. If necessary, there’s always the option of taking a break on a camel, but there aren’t enough camels for everyone as they are used to transport equipment and luggage. You should still be able to walk for about 2-3 hours without any issues over consecutive days. We cross rocky deserts and sand dunes.
NOTE:

A camel is always available to give you a little rest. Each day begins with a beautiful breakfast at sunrise. In the evening, a short meditation session will be offered to relax, recover from the walk, and mentally prepare for the experience-sharing session, which precedes the delicious dinner prepared by Mohamed and his team, enjoyed under a magnificent starry sky.
At night, you have different sleeping options: the large Berber tent can accommodate 10 people, but you can also sleep in small individual tents or under the stars. We offer preparatory meetings before each departure, as well as a sharing session for the group about a month after the return.
“I’ve often dreamed of a long walk in the desert. What appealed to me about this meharée was the idea of walking time rather than distance: then someone came up with the idea of stowing the watch at the bottom of the luggage. The perfect recipe for losing my bearings! Experience the fullness of these moments in total confidence, thanks to a team of guides who are experienced, generous and, above all, respectful of everyone. Waking up to the sound of Berber songs, tasting food perfectly suited to our activities, feeling immense gratitude towards the dromedaries who lighten our load… I’ve often dreamed of a long walk in the desert: and I dream of going back! Inch Allah!”
– Johanne L.Pierrefonds, Qc.
“The beauty of the landscape and the towns we visited. The welcome and singing of the Berbers. The possibility of meditating in this unique space conducive to reunion with oneself, and in communion with others. Everything was perfect and fabulous. ”
– Brigitte L. Qc
“The desert was an opportunity for me to take the time to do some intensive introspection, thanks to the good care of our Berber guides, so attentive and generous with their person. The desert is the perfect place for a complete experience of letting go, which happens quite naturally in a very rich place full of hope and serene energy. For me, the desert experience has been the most powerful and meaningful sharing so far in my life. Open-mindedness without limits, without judgment but rather intensely welcoming, comforting and liberating.”
– Josée G. Sherbrooke, Qc.
