Father Tyler Mattson

Fr. Tyler is a priest for the Diocese of Sioux Falls in South Dakota. He was born and raised in Sioux Falls. He attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota where he majored in Philosophy and Catholic Studies. He then attended the St. Paul Seminary where he received a Masters in Divinity. He was ordained a priest on June 2nd, 2017. He currently serves as the parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Parish in Sioux Falls.

DEPARTURE FROM VANCOUVER
Departure in the evening from Vancouver to Tel Aviv with Air Canada with stop over in Toronto.

ARRIVAL IN BETLEHEM
Arrival at Tel Aviv airport, meeting with your guide and transfer to Bethlehem. Mass and meeting with the local Catholic community. Installation at the hotel. Overnight in Bethlehem.

BIRTH OF JESUS – SHEPHERDS
Visit the Shepherds’ Field and the famous Herodion Fortress, built by Herod the Great, who ordered to kill all children under 2 years old. Back to Bethlehem, birthplace of Jesus. Visit the Basilica of the Nativity, the grotto of St. Jerome and the Church of St. Catherine. Overnight in Bethlehem

HAIFA – CAESAREA MARITIME
Head up north all the way to Haifa, passing through Mount Carmel. Then, continuation to Caesarea Maritime, where Saint Peter converts the Centurion and where Saint Paul was incarcerated later. Visit the Roman amphitheater, the citadel of the Crusaders and the Roman aqueducts. Night in Nazareth.

THE ANNUNCIATION – CHILDHOOD OF JESUS – THE FIRST MIRACLE
Visit of Nazareth, place of the Annunciation and childhood of Jesus (Luke 2, 39-40). We will first go to the church of St. Gabriel which houses the well of Mary. We will cross the souks (Arab market) to go to the church of the Annunciation. Then we will take the road to Cana of Galilee, where Jesus accomplished his first miracle. (John 2: 1-11). Night in Nazareth.

THE LIFE OF JESUS IN TIBERIAS
Visit the Mount of Beatitudes, traditional site of the Sermon on the Mountain (Matt 5-7). Those who wish can take part in a meditative walk to Tabgha (Heptapegon). We will visit the Church of the Primacy of Peter. Continuation to the synagogue of Capernaum, one of the most important sites of the ministry of Jesus in Galilee (Matt 4: 13, Mark 3: 1, 8: 5 and 14). Our journey then leads us to Tabgha, the traditional place of the Multiplication of the Breads and Fishes (Luke 9: 10-17). We will admire ancient mosaics inherited from the Byzantine era. This day will end with a charming cruise on Lake of Tiberias. Night in Nazareth.

LIFE OF JESUS IN TIBERIAS
Departure to visit Chorazim « Unhappy you are, Chorazim! » Continuation to Mount Tabor the place of the transfiguration of Jesus, this mystery of light in the journey of Jesus and the Apostles (Ascent in taxis). Moment of meditation at the shrine of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Night in Nazareth.

BAPTISM – DEAD SEA – WADI QELT
Road through the Jordan Valley, along the Jordan border, before reaching the oasis of Jericho, the oldest city in the world, about 10,000 years old. Stop on the banks of the Jordan (possibility of renewing the baptismal promises to the place where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist). Swimming in the Dead Sea whose water contains more than 30% minerals. Mass in the Judean Desert (Wadi Qelt). Overnight in Nazareth.

JERUSALEM – THE PASSION
Today we leave for the Mount of Olives, site of the Ascension and stop for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. We stop at Dominus Flevit Church and the Tomb of the Virgin. Continue to Mount Sion. Visit of the Church of St. Peter-in-Gallicante (Traditional House of Caiaphas) and the Cenacle. Overnight in Jerusalem.

JERUSALEM – DEATH & RESURRECTION
Visit Gethsemane Garden, then Ste-Anne Church and the pool of Bethesda. Visit the House of Sisters of Sion on the site of the Fortress Antonia with the Arch of Hadrian (Ecce Homo), place of the condemnation of Jesus and the Lithostrotos. Beginning of Via Dolorosa, Way of the Cross to Anastasis, place of the Resurrection (or Holy Sepulcher). Overnight in Jerusalem.

Day at your leisure to discover Jerusalem.

FLIGHT BACK TO VANCOUVER
Transfer to the Ben Gurion Airport for your flight back home.
