Description

When we talk about Kapoah, it is a reduction of “Kapatakan,” which means path in Innu language, and “OAHah,” which means path in Wendat language. These two Indigenous nations have traversed neighboring spaces for millennia for hunting and fishing. The Kapoah, Notre-Dame de Québec Trail offers a walk from La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region to Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral with its Holy Door. On rural and historical roads, forest paths, and even mountain trails, be counted among those who will embark on the adventure of Compostela in Canada towards Notre-Dame de Québec. This circuit is a tribute to the 350th anniversary of the Diocese of Quebec.

Highlights:

– Enjoy the mountainous landscapes and peaks of Charlevoix.
– Get to know key cities like St-Siméon, La Malbaie, Baie St-Paul, Le Massif, Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré, and Montmorency Falls.
– Cross the Holy Door of Québec Cathedral as part of the city’s 350th-anniversary celebration.

Extras:

– Take a break from daily life and journey inward.
– Two levels of walking: beginner and intermediate.
– Guided walk without luggage with a duo of guide and driver.

  • JOUR 6 | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2024 | MONASTERY ST-ANNE DE BEAUPRÉ – MOULIN DU PETIT-PRÉ

Breakfast at the inn or en route at a café. For this new day, departure from the Basilica, take Royale Street and arrive at Moulin du Petit-Près. Royale Avenue is one of the most picturesque in Quebec. Named Chemin du Roy in its early days, it connected Côte de Beaupré to the city of Quebec. Here, each building has its own particular look. The whole: houses, farms, schools, mill, reveals the soul of the 17th and 18th centuries. This territory once belonged to the Seigneurie de Beaupré, which granted and then sold these agricultural lands to families to populate the coast, sometimes to help some of them survive. Lunch en route is free and not included. Once you arrive at Moulin du Petit-Près, your minibus will be on-site to take you to your next inn. Free time. Dinner in a restaurant and night at L’auberge Fleuve et Montagne (CITQ: 068132). A 17km walk.

  • JOUR 7 | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2024 | CHATEAU RICHER – NOTRE DAME DE QUÉBEC

Breakfast at your inn, and here is the last day of walking: continuing on Avenue Royale to the west, there are 7km left before reaching the Montmorency River Bridge. At this point, however, a stop and visit are necessary at the park of the impressive Montmorency Falls. Lunch en route is free and not included. Once crossed, walkers and pilgrims walk another 7km and enter the City of Quebec. After the port of Quebec and the train station, you will reach the cathedral via the stairs of Rue Petit Champlain or by the funicular (optional and not included). Walk then to the Basilica-Cathedral Notre-Dame de Québec, the highlight of your pilgrimage. You will be invited to experience the Holy Door, illustrating the passage from what needs to be left behind to what one wants to walk toward. Those who wish can also undergo the spiritual process to prepare to cross this Holy Door, the 7th in the world and unique in the Americas. It is only open during Holy Years, and it will be open all year in 2024 to mark the exceptional 350th anniversary of the Diocese of Quebec. Free time afterward to enjoy the city of Quebec. Today; a 14km walk. Check-in to your hotel for this last night. Dinner in a restaurant. Night at the Ursulines Spirituality Center in a single room for everyone or similar.

Do I need to be in good physical health?

Yes, this journey requires good preparation and physical fitness as we walk an average of 15-20 kilometers per day, although the backpack is carried for you. However, it’s not a matter of age; people of all ages undertake this pilgrimage. It’s not about strength but endurance, as everyone walks at their own pace. Each morning, the guide explains the route and sets several meeting points if needed, providing a longer route for those who prefer it and offering a minibus stop at a shorter point. It is important to prepare physically well in advance. Start exercising at least 60 minutes two to three times a week. At least 3 months before departure, start training for walking, gradually increasing the distance from 5 to 20 km per day.

Can I have my luggage carried?

This service is included in the package; however, it is advisable to bring a small backpack to carry your water, meals, a towel, and other daily needs.

Who is this journey for?

This journey is for individuals open to the spiritual domain and group experiences. It is for anyone desiring to undergo this experience, without any distinction of gender, age, race, or religious belief.

What does a pilgrim’s shelter look like?

There are shelters of various categories, clean and welcoming establishments equipped with a kitchen and dining area for several (if you want to prepare your meal); in some cases, there is a restaurant service, simple and inexpensive. The rest areas are typically dormitory-style with shared toilets and showers. It’s important to note that bunk beds are common in such accommodations.

How do we eat lunch?

In many places, there are grocery stores to buy provisions for the road or lunch. Plan for a budget of $15-20 per day.

What are the advantages of joining Spiritours for this pilgrimage?

The itinerary is well-established and organized by experienced specialists. You’ll benefit from the guidance of a knowledgeable guide who has experienced the trail and encourages exchanges and reflection. You’ll also share the experience with a small group of pilgrims eager to challenge themselves and undergo inner growth. Additionally, through information and preparation meetings, you’ll receive valuable advice for physical and mental preparation.
