Description

Experience the nomadic life of the desert and rediscover the power and wisdom of silence. An excursion into another universe where time stands still, and all our usual reference points fade away to make room for a new inner reality. Walking in silence in the desert is one of the highest forms of meditation that exists. This walk allows us to connect with our limits and resources deep within ourselves. We invite you to experience it in the magnificent universe of the Sahara Desert and discover Moroccan culture.

Spending a few days on foot in the Sahara is an opportunity to experience a different relationship with oneself, with inner dialogue. Beyond the silence of the desert, the guide offers workshops to unload some life burdens: talking circles, symbolic acts, Toltec agreements, role-playing. These workshops delve into the heart of life stories. They are optional.

Laurent has always been drawn to deserts around the world. He crossed the Sahara by car in 1985. After an international career in IT, he started his consulting business at the age of 42. As a coach, trainer, and seminar facilitator, he discovered initiatory walks in the desert in 2009 through two Belgian coaches, themselves inspired by a Quebecois. Since 2015, Laurent has been guiding groups of people in this hotel with 3000 stars and endless sands, all seeking meaning and disconnection, with participants who want to leave some burdens in the dunes. How do we go to the bathroom in the Moroccan desert?
There are no dry toilets in the desert. You must find a secluded/more intimate place, such as behind a dune. We recommend bringing brown paper bags (biodegradable) to dispose of your toilet paper after use, which we burn at the end of the day.

Do we sleep under the stars during nights in the desert?
You have two options: sleep in a Berber tent or in an individual tent.

How can I maintain personal hygiene in the desert?
We suggest bringing wet wipes for daily cleaning. Note that the desert air is dry, so we sweat less. Some sports or outdoor shops also sell soap sheets, which can be a good alternative.

Is the water drinkable?
The Berber team provides us with sufficient drinking water. We fill individual water bottles every morning and during walking breaks.

Should I get hiking boots or walking shoes for the trip?
It’s a matter of personal choice. Some people prefer walking with ankle-supporting boots, which can be warmer. Others prefer walking with good hiking shoes or comfortable sport sandals with socks.

Do I need to be fit to join this trip?
We walk approximately 5 hours a day at a fairly slow pace, and the campsite moves every day. If needed, there is always the option to take a break on a camel, but there aren’t enough camels for all clients as they need to transport equipment and luggage. However, you should be able to walk about 2-3 hours without any problems for several consecutive days. We cross rocky deserts and sand dunes.

NOTE:
As we move according to the whims of nature, the excursion must be adapted accordingly. Every day, the camp is moved, and we walk between four and five hours. The walk is slow and silent to allow introspection while contemplating breathtaking landscapes with the sound of the wind and Berber songs that camel drivers sometimes offer us.

A camel is always available to allow you to take a break. Each day begins with a beautiful sunrise breakfast. In the evening, a short meditation session will be offered to relax, recover from the walk, and mentally prepare for the sharing experience of the day, preceding the delicious dinner prepared by Mohamed and his team, to be enjoyed under a magnificent starry sky.

At night, various options are available to you; the large Berber tent can accommodate 10 people, and you can also sleep in small individual tents or under the stars. We offer preparatory meetings before each departure. Additionally, we propose group sharing meetings about a month after the return.

I have often dreamed of a long walk in the desert. What attracted me to this camel trek is the idea of walking in time rather than distance: someone suggested putting the watch at the bottom of the luggage. The perfect recipe to lose my bearings! Living the fullness of these moments with complete trust, thanks to a team of experienced, generous, and above all, respectful guides. Waking up to the sounds of Berber songs, tasting food perfectly suited to our activities, feeling immense gratitude towards the camels that lighten our load… I have often dreamed of a long walk in the desert: and I dream of going back! Inch Allah!
– Johanne L., Pierrefonds, QC

The beauty of the landscape and the cities visited. The welcome and the song of the Berbers. The opportunity to reflect in this unique space conducive to rediscovering oneself and communing with others. Everything was perfect and fabulous.
– Brigitte L., QC

The desert was an opportunity for me to take the time for intensive introspection, thanks to the care of our Berber guides, so attentive and generous with themselves. The desert is ideal for a complete experience of letting go, which happens naturally in a place that is very rich and filled with hope and serene energy. For me, the desert experience has been the most powerful and significant sharing so far in my life. An open-mindedness without limits, without judgment but rather intensely welcoming, comforting, and liberating.
– Josée G., Sherbrooke, QC.
