World youth days
"You young people are the present, the today of God," Pope Francis affirmed at the final Mass of WYD in Panama City in January 2019.
WHAT IS WORLD YOUTH DAY?
World Youth Day brings together young people from around the world to share their faith. The days of the young pilgrims are punctuated by catechesis, concerts, exhibitions and pilgrimages as well as community service activities. They end with a Mass celebrated by the Holy Father, bringing together hundreds of thousands of participants.
WHEN WILL THE WORLD YOUTH DAY 2023 TAKE PLACE?
The WYD 2023 will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) in August 1st to 6th, 2023.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE 2023 LISBON WYD?
World Youth Days are for young adults (more or less between 18 and 35 years old)
THE HISTORY OF WYD
Pope John Paul II inaugurated World Youth Day in 1984 with a first gathering in Rome to celebrate a special jubilee for youth. More than 300,000 young people responded to the call. John Paul II entrusted them with the Holy Year Cross. The Cross became the symbol of WYD and continues to travel to all countries where WYD is held.
