SPIRITUAL WALK

MODERATE +
Experience the life of a desert nomad and rediscover the power and wisdom of silence. An excursion into another universe where time stands still and all our usual reference points vanish, making way for a new inner reality. Walking in silence in the desert is one of the highest forms of meditation that exists. This walk allows us to connect with our limits and our resources deep within ourselves. We invite you to experience this in the magnificent setting of the Sahara Desert and to discover Moroccan culture.
Note: We offer preparatory meetings before each departure. Furthermore, we offer a sharing/debriefing session for groups approximately one month after their return.
Highlights
The plus

Sylvie Caouette took her first solo trip at the age of 9! That’s when her passion for travel began. In 2019, she decided to make a living from her passion and became a tour guide, joining the Spiritours team in 2021. A trained massage therapist and yoga teacher, she has been interested in personal development for over 30 years and has completed several training courses. For Sylvie, the desert is the ideal place to find oneself, reconnect with one’s essence, and experience walking in silence. It is with great pleasure that Sylvie will accompany the trip to Morocco in 2026.
Meet in the early evening at the P.E. Trudeau Airport (Montreal) for a flight to Marrakech via Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc (or similar).
Arrive in Marrakech and transfer to the hotel. Check-in and free time to visit the city with our local guides. Dinner is on your own (at your expense). Marrakech is an imperial city and the tourist capital of Morocco. The snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains form a crown over Morocco’s most beautiful palm grove. Marrakech “the Red” sits enthroned in the heart of this emerald. Its flamboyant, ochre ramparts encircle its colorful souks, its famous Jemaa-el-Fna square, and its palaces hidden by high walls. The great southern medina is captivating and enchanting. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast, transfer by minibus and 4×4 (approximately 7 hours) towards Foum Zguit. The journey takes you through the magnificent landscapes of the Atlas Mountains and Lake Iriki, arriving before sunset. Lunch on the road (at your expense). Meet the camel drivers and dromedaries at our starting point for the beginning of the trek (*méharée*). Set up our first bivouac for the first night in the desert and a workshop on preparing for conscious walking. Overnight in the desert.
Each day begins with a magnificent breakfast at sunrise and a talking circle. After breakfast, depart with the camp, dromedaries, and guides into the desert. Since we move according to Mother Nature’s moods, the excursion must be adapted accordingly. Every day, the camp is moved, and we walk between four and five hours. The walk is slow and silent to allow for inner reflection while contemplating the breathtaking landscapes to the sound of the wind and the Berber songs that the camel drivers sometimes offer us. A dromedary is always available to allow you to rest a little. Lunch and a siesta on the road in the shade of the Tamarisks, and the caravan stops to set up camp before sunset. In the evening, other activities are offered to let go of life’s burdens in group or individual exercises, to relax, recover from the walk, and prepare internally for the sharing meeting of the day’s experience, which will precede the delicious dinner prepared by Mohamed and his team, to be enjoyed under a magnificent starry sky. Dinner by lantern and candlelight, with occasional dancing and drumming. When night falls, different options are available to you; the large Berber tent can accommodate 10 people, or you can sleep in small individual tents or under the stars.
After breakfast, you will enjoy a day of rest at the heart of the desert to recharge your batteries. Lunch will be served during the day. Dinner. Overnight.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will leave the desert via the village of Foum Zguid, heading towards Zagora. Lunch on the road. Return. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Free time or the possibility of experiencing an optional traditional hammam (oriental spa) at your expense.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transport by minibus to the Valley of Roses in Ouarzazate, discovering the landscapes of the Draa Valley, the palm grove valley, and the Berber villages. Lunch included. Dinner and overnight stay with a local family.
Breakfast then departure with a stop on the road to discover a women’s cooperative that will explain how cosmetic products based on Damask rose water are made. Lunch at your expense. Stop to visit the Amridil Kasbah, an ancient kasbah located in Skora. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Transfer to Ouarzazate airport for your return flight to Montreal with a connection in Casablanca. **Itinerary subject to change**Itinerary subject to change – Exclusive tour, all rights reserved**

How can we go to the bathroom in the Moroccan desert?
There are no dry toilets in the desert. You must therefore find a hidden/more private spot, such as behind a dune. To leave no trace, everyone must burn their toilet paper on the spot. It is advisable to carry matches or a lighter with you.
Do we sleep under the stars during the nights in the desert?
You have two options: sleeping in the Berber tent or in an individual tent.
How can I wash myself in the desert?
We suggest bringing wet wipes (baby wipes are suitable) to clean yourself every day. It should be noted that the temperature is dry in the desert, so we sweat little. Some sports or outdoor stores also sell leaf soap, which can be a good alternative.
Is the water drinkable?
The Berber team provides us with enough drinking water. We fill up individual water bottles every morning and during walking breaks.
Do I need to get hiking boots or walking shoes for the trip?
It’s entirely a matter of personal choice. Some people prefer to walk with ankle boots that provide slightly better ankle support but have the disadvantage of being warmer. Other people prefer to walk with good walking shoes or comfortable sports sandals with socks.
Do I need to be in good shape to register for this trip?
We walk for about 5 hours a day at a relatively slow pace, and the camp moves every day. If necessary, there is always the possibility of taking a break on a dromedary’s back, but there are not enough dromedaries for all clients as they must carry equipment and luggage. However, you should be able to walk for about 2-3 hours without problems for several consecutive days. We will cross rocky deserts and sand dunes.
PLEASE NOTE:
As we move according to the moods of Mother Nature, the excursion must be adapted accordingly.
Each day begins with a magnificent breakfast at sunrise. In the evening, a short meditation session will be offered to relax, recover from the walk, and prepare internally for the sharing meeting of the day’s experience, which will precede the delicious dinner prepared by Mohamed and his team, to be enjoyed under a magnificent starry sky.
When night falls, different possibilities are available to you; the large Berber tent can accommodate 10 people, or you can sleep in small individual tents or under the stars. “I have often dreamed of a long walk in the desert. What appealed to me about this camel trek was the idea of walking for time rather than distance: then someone suggested putting our watches at the bottom of our bags. The perfect recipe for losing my bearings! I was able to live these moments to the fullest with complete confidence thanks to a team of experienced, generous, and above all respectful guides. Waking up to the sounds of Berber songs, enjoying food that was perfectly suited to our activities, feeling immense gratitude towards the camels that lightened our load… I have often dreamed of a long walk in the desert: and I dream of going back! Inch Allah!”
– Johanne L.Pierrefonds, Qc.
“The beauty of the landscape and the cities we visited. The welcome and the singing of the Berbers. The opportunity to reflect in this unique space, conducive to reconnecting with oneself and communing with others. Everything was perfect and fabulous.”
– Brigitte L. , Qc
